autisticadvocacy:

We have released our first PSA! It’s called Listen Up, and it’s on Youtube now. Listen Up features Henry Frost, Amy Sequenzia, and Kevin Barrett telling the world that the Autistic community can speak for itself.

We’re incredibly excited to be able to reach people through this medium; we encourage you to watch it, share it, and help us make it go viral.

But that’s not all – if you want to see Listen Up aired on television, both locally and nation-wide, we need your help for that, too.

Getting a PSA shown on television is highly competitive, so the more people who contact the national networks, the higher the chance they will listen. That’s why we’re providing you with information, detailed instructions, and the support you will need to help us email and tweet at both local and national networks.

You can use this factsheet to learn how to contact your local news station, and this factsheet to learn how to contact national networks.

And, if you have any clarifying questions, comments, or concerns,  please email us at acceptance@autisticadvocacy.org. We want to hear from you, offer any support and assistance that may be needed, and make sure we know which stations have been contacted and which have responded.

[Words on screen read: “Listen up. I am autistic. I don’t need anyone to speak for me. I am a human being. I can speak for myself. And guess what? I have something to say. And I want to be heard. So keep your pity, overcome your own fears, and let’s talk. We may both learn something.”]

Dear people who claim that vaccines cause autism, therefore people shouldn’t vaccinate their kids,

vaccines exist to prevent deadly illnesses. You are literally saying that endangering your child’s life is preferable to them being autistic. Never mind whether they actually do cause it or not, you’re saying that death is preferable to autism.

Congrats, you’re a piece of shit and the autistic person/people in your life deserve better.

Not to mention there are people with immune disorders and problems (people going through chemo, for one) who need herd immunity.  You might not be killing your child, but you could end up killing someone else.

(TW: Abuse, dehumanization) Some of the bizarre things I was brought up to believe

(TW: Abuse, dehumanization)

draggle-ella:

To make up for existing, I must be as capitally productive as possible.  The opposite of this is making more people who will potentially not be tax payers.

I cannot risk being expendable.  If I’m expendable, I’m a sitting duck.

(But don’t show off!)

I have no choice but to gnaw a hole into the world.

(But don’t do that!  Shouldn’t exist, anyway, much less make a mark!)

I’m unwanted.  I’m unwanted.  I’m unwanted.

Do everything.  Be nothing.

Aren’t you grateful you live in a time and place where women don’t have to be mothers?

You don’t want that for yourself.  You’re defective.  It’s not your place.

Not that you have a place.

Put your dog to sleep.*  She’s disabled, therefore not productive.  Learn this, little girl!  But if you kill yourself, you’ll go to hell.  You’re not a person enough for us to care about this imposed Catch-22.

Love isn’t productivity.  Warmth is useless.

Don’t care for others.  It’s creepy.  Everything you do is creepy.

Your determination to survive is a threat.

Above all, happiness is forbidden and undeserved.

*Note:  I did NOT put Rose to sleep.  This infuriated people.
